An intriguing start to a novel which has all the hallmarks of being a brilliant novel, I have now got the full novel lined up for reading.
Told from the points of views of various characters we are promised secrets within the Winter family from the very first chapter.
It is Martha’s 80th birthday and she has decided the time is right to tell everyone the secrets that she cannot bear anymore. And so it is that various members of the family receive a formal invitation to her birthday celebration.
But there are more secrets than even she knows.
Karen, her daughter in law, married to her son Bill, anticipates the party with nothing like pleasure.
Florence, whose invite coincides with a shocking revelation.
Cat, the granddaughter, whose invite makes her think about home, a place she hasn’t returned to in years and family, people she can’t possibly begin to explain the intervening years to.
Lucy, the other granddaughter, a budding journalist may have promised the one thing she can’t deliver.
Hints are given to some of the secrets and more are promised but this first part of the novel makes it quite clear that this will be a book that will keep the reader’s interest as more secrets are uncovered and I for one cannot wait to read more about the Winter family as this first part has outlined the characters and made them people I want to know more about and the secrets that are going to be uncovered will surely be drip-fed and bound together in such a way that will entice and tease the reader into wanting more.
