Nothing new there, you think? But these four friends are women in their early sixties, women who you would think have lived their lives, have everything sorted, no worries, happy in themselves...well, think again. Meet Rochelle, Sylvia, Barbara and Irene, friends since Kindergarten and through thick and thin, who are discovering that life is what you make it and that no matter how old you are, things can always be different and maybe life can even begin at 60? After a lifetime of letting others tell her what to do Rochelle is finally waking up to the fact that she can be who she wants to be and it's not an unpaid childminder and cook to her children who use her home as their own as and when they please. Irene has been searching for love and thinks she has found Mr Perfect until he moves in with her and she discovers that even Mr Perfect has unsavoury habits. Barbara has been content to turn a blind eye to her husband's philanderings throughout their marriage but when this latest one looks like a keeper she has to come up with a plan to put him off. Finally, Sylvia who has a fear of choking to death and so keeps her unmarried daughter living with her by means of guilt and scaring off would be suitors with her choking at dinner act. But when things come to a head with Mary, what will Sylvia do? This is a novel with realistic characters; it will make you laugh out loud even whilst sympathising with their dilemmas which are treated with, sometimes dark, humour but also wisdom. One thing is for sure, these four ladies will make you smile and realise that life - and love - can begin after 60! I really did enjoy this book, it was a pleasure to read about women of a different age to the usual 30 something saga and young families and it says a lot about family relationships in a funny yet very honest way. I'd certainly recommend it and will definitely look out for other work by this author.
